All the benefits of pomegranate juice, a drink that is a natural good for health
The pomegranate juice is a very good drink of flavor and has many beneficial effects for our health: a powerful antioxidant, with several other beneficial properties, we’ll find out in this guide.
What is pomegranate juice?
The pomegranate juice is obtained by squeezing the grains contained in the fruit. These purple-red beans are rich in Vitamin A, B, C, and tannins.
It stands out for its antioxidant, astringent, and refreshing properties.
Taking pomegranate juice helps the functionality of cells and contributes to the external beauty and internal health of our body.
The pomegranate is the fruit, ripe in autumn, of the Punica granatum plant of the Punicaceae family.
Fruit with a bright and bright red color resembling the shape of an apple, while internally it is formed by numerous seeds called arils, bright red, tender, succulent, and with a typically acidic flavor, wrapped in a yellow pulp.
The term pomegranate derives from the Latin malum (apple) and granatum (with seeds), therefore apple with seeds. Originally from Persia, the pomegranate was imported by the Romans to Italy at the time of the Punic wars, hence the botanical name Punica Granatum.
Used since ancient times for its astringent, tonic, and anti-haemorrhagic properties.
The Greeks called the pomegranate the” fruit of life.”
How do you get it
Pomegranate juice is obtained by cold pressing the seeds contained in the fruit, which has been ripe since October. On the market, there are several pomegranate juices and mixed fruit juices. Surely the best and richest juice is the one prepared at home.
How to make pomegranate juice
To prepare a good pomegranate juice, it will be enough to have ripe fruits that will be squeezed.
First of all, you have to open the fruit by first removing the crown with a sharp knife and without spoiling the seeds, which are rich in juice.
The pomegranate is edible to 59%: and then to get a nice glass of juice (about 125 ml) should use the fruit of approximately 210 g weight.
There are several squeezing techniques available.
It is not necessary to free all the seeds from the fruit but, once opened in half, it is used with the peel as if it were a lemon or an orange, and I squeeze it. The pomegranate juice is therefore obtained from the squeezing of the whole pomegranate, not only of the arils but also of the peel.
To prepare pomegranate juice with a blender, first of all, free the seeds of the peel and the spongy part that could give a bitter taste to the juice.
The beans are then poured into the mixer, adding a little water.
To obtain the pomegranate extract, simply insert the previously shelled arils from the whole fruit in an electric extractor.
The pomegranate juice is obtained by inserting the arils – the seeds – well cleaned of the white and spongy peel in an electric centrifuge.
Doses to be taken
The average portion of pomegranate juice is 100-150 ml (85-125 kcal): a nice glass a day.
How is it preserved?
Once prepared at home, pomegranate juice must be poured into previously cleaned glass bottles. Even better if they have been sterilized in boiling water. The juice can therefore be kept in the fridge for 2-3 days and must be shaken well before consuming.
